The Literacy Foundation of Nebraska
MISSION STATEMENT:
“Eliminating hurdles to greater literacy in the state of Nebraska.”
Providing effective educational services to ensure that all students have the opportunity to acquire literacy skills to foster proficient readers and empower individuals to become confident, resilient, and educated leaders in society.
VISION:
The Literacy Foundation of Nebraska is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating more resources for parents of children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning challenges. We understand the importance of providing support and guidance to parents who may feel overwhelmed or uncertain about how to best help their children overcome these challenges.
Our team of experts is dedicated to researching and developing innovative techniques and strategies that can be used by parents at home. We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to succeed academically and thrive in a supportive learning environment.
By partnering with parents, educators, and the community, we aim to raise awareness about learning challenges and advocate for improved resources and support systems. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children with dyslexia, dyscalculia, and other learning challenges.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Kathy Johnson
I founded Simplistic Solutions Inc. in 2015 to support struggling students and their families and to educate others accurately and effectively about dyslexia. In August 2020, Simplistic Solutions Academy was developed to support students who do not thrive in a typical classroom setting. I began my teaching career as a Pre-K/Kindergarten teacher for one year. After taking a 7-year break to raise my 3 amazing children, I decided to return to education as a resource teacher where I found a passion for supporting struggling students. I began taking courses relating to dyslexia and the science of reading and went back to school where I received the following certifications: Dyslexia Practitioner, CERI (Center for Effective Reading Instruction) Certification, Certified Special Education Advocacy Program, Psychometrist, and Structured Literacy Specialist. I am certified in multiple evidence-based structured literacy programs.
I have served as President of the Nebraska Dyslexia Association from 2019-2023, and have been an active board member since 2015. I proudly served on the committee developing the Nebraska Department of Education Dyslexia Guide from 2019-2021. I am incredibly passionate about not only supporting students but also educating parents so they can make the best decisions for their child's academic success.
